Connecting with a genetic counselor is a great way to obtain hands-on learning regarding a career in genetic counseling, and is targeted towards undergraduate students or graduates interested in entering the field.

While the Connecting with a Counselor through the University of Minnesota program is currently undergoing review and revision, we'd like to encourage those who would like to learn more about the genetic counseling profession and shadowing opportunities to continue to seek these out with current resources through the National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC) or Mayo Clinic's Informational Interview and Shadowship program.

Applying for a MN Genetic Counselor License
We are very pleased to announce that the MN Board of Medical Practice is accepting applications for genetic counselor licensure
The MN Board of Medical Practice issues and renews licenses for genetic counselors. For convenience, we have links below to the initial application and required forms. Please contact the MN Board of Medical Practice directly with any questions, concerns or needs.

The license renewal cycle for licensees is on an annual cycle where renewal with the MN Board of Medical Practice is due on the last day of the licensee's month of birth.

Your online renewal is available through the MN Board of Medical Practice 2 months before your current license expiration date.

If you have not previously registered with the MN Board of Medical Practice, you will receive a renewal notice letter from the MN Board of Medical Practice with a security code.
